Faculty, Staff Volunteers Needed for Southeast Buddy Program
05/17/2017

In an effort to create and foster integration between all students on campus, the Office of International Education and Services has created the Southeast Buddy Program for international students. Southeast faculty and staff members often interact with many international students, but also may not have time to get to know them beyond their official role at the University. The Southeast Buddy Program offers a structured way to spend time with a new international student to exchange perspectives and help them feel welcome at Southeast and in America. Faculty and staff volunteers will be paired up with an international 'Buddy' to meet with at least once a month according to their schedules and interests. Some suggestions for common activities include cooking U.S. and international dishes, attending or participating in a sporting event, exploring a local park or cultural site, or meeting for coffee on campus. This valuable time allows international students to better acclimate to the U.S. culture and customs while volunteers gain insight into their country and lifestyle. Thanks to volunteers, Southeast can continue to show students from around the world they are welcome here.
