05/16/2017
The school year has ended but your fitness and wellness program continues all year long! Here is a look at a few summer programs Recreation Services is offering: Group Fitness Summer Program We will continue to offer a smaller group fitness schedule this summer starting May 22 through Aug. 11. Classes are free to all Student Recreation Center (SRC) members, and Lunch Xpress is also free to all faculty and staff. Sign up for all classes through the REC*IT Fitness App or at imleagues.com. Participants can register 48 hours or less in advance, and for the unlimited classes, sign up is available the day of the class. Please help Recreation Services transition to digital registration for the group fitness program. A summer schedule is available at http://www.semo.edu/pdf/Rec-group-fit-schedule.pdf?=ver3.7 'A Complete 180' Summer Challenge The summer fitness incentive will involve participating in all components of fitness and promoting overall health. The goal is to complete 100 minutes per week of cardio-vascular exercise, 60 minutes per week of strength training and 20 minutes a week of stretching and flexibility activities. This equals 180 minutes of exercise per week! This incentive will begin May 22 through Aug. 4. Participants will receive one freebie a week which can be used, for example, vacation, so it will be 10 weeks total. Winners will receive a prize at the end of the summer, and this accomplishment will be logged on a Google document. To register for this program, email Sara Wagganer at swagganer@semo.edu. Train the Trainer Program A few small group personal training programs will be available this summer. These programs consist of eight weeks of training (one day per week) with one to three other participants, and help to get Rec Services' new trainers ready to take on clients. The sessions will begin with Sara Wagganer, assistant director of fitness and wellness, planning all of the workouts. Eventually new trainers will take over a portion each week until they are planning the entire workout at the end. Dates: Tuesdays, June 6–July 25 Times: Noon (already full), 1 p.m. or 2 p.m.(pick one time) Cost: $30 for Student Recreation Center members, $45 for non-members Main Trainer: Sara Wagganer To register for this program, email Sara Wagganer at swagganer@semo.edu.
