Retirement Reception May 5 for Dr. Allen Gathman

Dr. Allen Gathman, dean of online learning and interim dean of the School of Graduate Studies, is retiring June 30 after 32 years at Southeast. A retirement reception is planned for 2-4 p.m. May 5 in the Academic Hall Dome Room. The campus community is invited to attend. Gathman joined the Department of Biology in 1985 and was promoted to professor in 1994. During his tenure with the Department of Biology, he worked to complete the genome sequence for a mushroom called Coprinus cinereus. The project was part of the Microbial Genome Sequencing Program of the National Science Foundation. In addition to his current roles, he previously served as director of the Center for Scholarship in Teaching and Learning, associate dean for Online Learning, interim dean of Online and Extended Learning and director of the Center for Writing Excellence.
