Southeast Students Land 33 Awards at Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference

Southeast Missouri State University students took second place overall, winning 33 awards in 28 individual and team events at the State Leadership Conference of Phi Beta Lambda March 31 and April 1 at Drury College in Springfield, Missouri. Southeast finished behind only the University of Missouri-Columbia. Members of the Southeast Zeta Alpha Lambda chapter of Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) garnered six first-place, four second-place, four third-place, two fourth-place, and five fifth-place finishes. The conference provided students with an opportunity to hear presentations on leadership, network with other participants, run for state leadership positions and participate in competitive events. Representatives from 20 colleges and universities from across Missouri participated in the business-oriented competitive event portion of the program. During the conference, Southeast senior, Dylan Kennedy, a junior corporate communication major from Catron, Missouri, was re-elected Missouri State Phi Beta Lambda president for 2017-2018. Along with Kennedy, Rebecca Ott, a Southeast junior hospitality management major from Wentzville, Missouri, ended her term, having served as state secretary during the 2016-2017 year. Also at the conference, Dr. Dana Schwieger, professor of management information systems in Southeast’s Department of Accounting and co-advisor to the University’s PBL chapter, was named Missouri State Phi Beta Lambda Advisor of the Year for 2017-2018.
