Annual Low Lecture Rescheduled for April 21, to Feature University of New Hampshire Professor

Dr. Lawrence Prelli, professor of communication at the University of New Hampshire, will present “Stories in Stone: Public Monuments and the Making of Public Memory” at the 2017 Joseph H. Low Lecture from 6-7 p.m. Friday, April 21 in Crisp Hall Room 125. This event is sponsored by the Department of Communication Studies, and admission is free. Prelli is one of the communication field’s most active and respected scholars, and one of the country’s leading authorities on visual rhetoric. Trained in classical rhetorical theory, Prelli’s innovative work demonstrates an uncanny ability to use traditional concepts to explore a vast array of social and political issues. His first book, “A Rhetoric of Science: Inventing Scientific Discourse,” earned him an award for distinguished scholarship and attracted the attention of the National Science Foundation which enlisted him to review grant proposals. His most recent book, “Rhetorics of Display,” is setting the standard for the emerging interest in visual rhetoric, earning him the 2007 Diamond Anniversary Monograph from the National Communication Association. Prelli has produced more than 25 articles and book chapters and nearly 100 professional papers. His diverse and provocative work is a compelling demonstration of what it means to be a liberally educated scholar.
