Over 500 Area Students Competing at 40th Annual Math Field Day at Southeast

Southeast Missouri State University Department of Mathematics will host 506 students from 26 area high schools to compete in the 40th annual Math Field Day Tuesday, April 18. The event begins at 9 a.m. and concludes with an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. Team events begin at 9:25 a.m., while individual testing will be held from 10:10 to 11:30 a.m. At noon, students will engage in a problem-solving event, Mathletics. Events will take place in Academic Hall Auditorium and the University Center. Approximately 540 students will compete in a multitude of areas including algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, word problems, sets and logic, exponential and log functions, matrices and determinants, computational mathematics, elementary data analysis, probability, mental arithmetic, non-routine problem solving, analytic geometry, number bases, number theory, hand calculators and calculus. Area schools competing in this year’s contest are Anna-Jonesboro Community High School, Arcadia Valley R-II, Bell City R-2, Bernie R-XIII, Bunker High School, Campbell High School, Cape Central High School, Cobden High School, Eagle Ridge Christian School, East Carter R-II, Farmington High School, Fredericktown R-I, Gideon High School, Herrin High School, Leopold R-III, Malden High School, Nashville Community High School, Naylor High School, North County High School, Notre Dame Regional High School, Oak Ridge High School, Poplar Bluff High School, Saxony Lutheran High School, Scott City R-1, Ste.
