Annual Juried Student Exhibition Opens April 7

“The Annual Juried Student Exhibition” will be displayed in the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus April 7-23. An opening reception for the exhibiting students is scheduled for 4-8 p.m. April 7 and is open to the public. The awards ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center. Merit awards and honorable mention awards will be presented in each of the following categories: Color Composition/Design Foundations, 3D, Drawing, Painting, Fibers, Graphic Design/Illustration, Digital Art, Printmaking, Ceramics and Sculpture. Best in Show and the Distinguished Merit Award will also be presented. “The exhibition showcases the creative talents of Southeast’s students and the works they completed within the past year,” said Peter Nguyen, Museum director. “Many of the works on view will be available for purchase.” This year’s juror is Megan Singleton, a practicing artist and adjunct professor at Saint Louis University. Singleton earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography at Webster University and her Master of Fine Arts in sculpture at Louisiana State University. [caption id='attachment_25148' align='alignright' width='258'] Megan Singleton[/caption] In conjunction with the student exhibition, Singleton will present a Juror's Lecture at noon, March 29, in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center. Singleton’s current work consists of contemporary craft, combining sculpture, hand papermaking, installation and digital applications. Her works are exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the Louisiana Art and Science Museum, the Robert C. Williams Paper Museum and in numerous private and corporate collections. She is the vice president of membership and development of the hand papermaking organization The Friends of Dard Hunter, and is a member of the International Art Collective Expanded Draught in Galway, Ireland.
