01/26/2017
Local, regional and national employers are registered to meet Southeast Missouri State University students and alumni of all majors and Southeast alumni at the spring 2017 Career Expo Feb. 9 in the Student Recreation Center. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students interested in exploring internships or career and job opportunities will be able to meet people from organizations directly related to their field of study. Organizations planning to attend the fair represent a local, regional, national and international spectrum, including Saint Francis Medical Center, Enterprise Holdings, HD Supply Waterworks, Citigroup, SoutheastHealth, BJC Healthcare, U.S. Secret Service, ADM Ag Services, and public school districts and educational organizations. This will give students the chance to meet someone in their respective field. A complete, updated list can be found on the Career Services website at http://semo.edu/careers/career-fair/index.html. “With so many different employers attending, this is a great event for students of all ages and majors,” said Dan Presson, employer relations coordinator in Southeast’s Career Services. “This is an opportunity for Southeast to highlight not only our academic programs but the strength of our graduates.” Students who attend the fair are encouraged to dress professionally, bring an updated copy of their resume and research each company they plan to visit ahead of time. According to Career Services, professional dress consists of a dress shirt, tie, slacks, dress shoes and socks for men. For women the preferred dress is a dress blouse (nothing low cut, tight or that shows midriff), jackets/twin sweater sets, modest length skirts, dresses, pant suits and dress shoes. If students do not have these particular garments, collared shirts, khaki pants and dress shoes are acceptable. Students needing help or preparation before the fair, can attend Career Services’ Workshop Wednesdays Jan. 25, Feb. 1 and Feb. 8 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. for a boot camp session; First Friday Photo from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 3 to have a headshot taken for use in professional social media; or Pop-In Resume Critiques Jan. 24, Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. to receive help drafting and editing a resume. For a full calendar of events, visit http://semo.edu/careers/events/index.html. Students, even if they are unable to attend the Career Expo, are encouraged to upload their resume to www.redhawkjobs.com where employers will be able to view students’ resumes both before and after the event.
