Southeast Missouri State University will host its final Show Me Day of the spring on March 23, offering students a firsthand look at campus. But Show Me Day isn’t just about exploring the campus; it’s about discovering the transformative power of a college degree and all the opportunities that await them at SEMO.
“If you want to see how a Redhawk lives and soars from day-to-day, Show Me Day is the day for you,” said graduate assistant of special events in the Admissions Office, Philip Francis. “It’s our flagship visit day, providing an immersive glimpse into campus life, academic programs, and the lifelong benefits of earning a degree.”
The event kicks off with check-in at the Show Me Center, where students will have the chance to meet their admission counselor. There, they will get a University and scholarship overview, and then head to the Academic and Student Life Fair at the Recreation Center. There, they'll begin to see how their college journey can shape their future, both academically and personally. Campus tours are scheduled before lunch, where students will get the opportunity to dine at Towers Landing.
During the afternoon sessions, students can explore various academic open houses and other parts of campus, depending on their interests. The tour includes visits to multiple residence halls, showcasing both suite and community-style rooms, where lifelong friends are made.
Show Me Day also provides the opportunity to look at the financial considerations of a college education. SEMO prides itself on providing a scholarship program that 70 percent of its students qualify for. The fall 2024 scholarship deadline has also been extended to June 1 for $1,000-3000 Copper Dome Scholarships and $1,000 Residence Life Scholarships.
Students can also get help submitting the FAFSA at Show Me Day, which has an extended deadline this year of April 1. The FAFSA application will help determine how much federal aid a student qualifies for and if a student is eligible for a Will to Do Award which covers the gap between aid and total tuition and fees.
“With the changes to FAFSA, this year has created delays for families to know what state and federal aid is available to help them pay for college,” said Lenell Hahn, director of Admissions. “We’ve planned dedicated one-on-one sessions to sit down with families and discuss their financial questions. It's important for them to know that aid offers will be finalized before their first bill is due, and we've adjusted certain deadlines to better support them through this process.”
Show Me Day offers a comprehensive view of SEMO, and the day underscores the value of investing in a college degree, emphasizing the academic programs that will help students achieve their career goals and increased earning potential as well as the opportunities for leadership and professional growth.
