The Red & Jitter Snyder Scholarship Fund has been established at Southeast Missouri State University to help five students majoring in the visual arts with financial needs during their education.
Marion “Red” Snyder was born and raised in Cape Girardeau and graduated from Southeast in 1961 with a degree in art. Dorothy “Jitter” Snyder graduated from Southeast in 1962 with majors in French and physical education.
Marion and Dorothy married while attending Southeast together. They later received master’s degrees from Southern Illinois University before moving out of state. Dorothy eventually became an attorney and Marion a business owner.
The couple left part of their estate to Southeast to establish a scholarship fund. The fund will award equal scholarship amounts to the top five students majoring in the visual arts who meet financial need criteria.
