Southeast Missouri State University has new scholarship opportunities for students in Stoddard County thanks to the establishment of a trio of scholarships from the Martin Family.
Tim, Mike, and David Martin were born and raised in Bernie, Missouri. The Martin brothers all attended Southeast with both Mike and David earning degrees in agriculture and business. David Martin has also served on the Southeast Missouri State Board of Governors since his appointment in 2022.
“We established these scholarships with the idea of giving back to students in the area we’ve called home our whole lives,” David Martin said. “Our hope is that the recipients are able to complete their degree because of the scholarship and enter a career in either agriculture or business.”
The Martin Family Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to a Southeast-bound graduate from Bernie High School who graduates as valedictorian or achieves the highest grade point average of the graduating class. This scholarship amount will be $10,000.
The Martin Family Scholarship for Extraordinary Achievement in FFA will go to a student from Stoddard County who the highest GPA and has participated in FFA for at least three years. Three different scholarships will be awarded out of that fund, one for $5,000 and two for $3,000.
The Martin Family Scholarship for Extraordinary Achievement in FFA at Bernie High School will award two scholarships to students from Bernie High School with the same criteria. Those awards will be $5,000 and $3,000.
“We hope these scholarships will allow students to achieve their goals, and we hope it keeps talented individuals in our area,” said David Martin.
