Camera and Clay, an exhibition of ceramics and photography by Southeast Missouri State University students will be on view Friday, September 2 through Friday, September 30 at the River Campus Art Building.
The works on display were created by students in ceramics and photography classes taught by Professor Benjie Heu and Professor Bradley Phillips, respectively. The premise of the exhibition was conceived by Dr. Joni Hand, professor of art history.
According to Hand, “The interplay between two- and three-dimensional vessels was the intent of this exhibition. The tactile quality of the ceramic vessel in conjunction with the representation of vessels in the photographs encourages the viewer to question the very notion of reality. As a culture that views the world primarily via digital technology, have we discarded objects for representations of objects, or do they carry equal meaning?”
An opening reception for Camera and Clay will take place on Friday, September 2 from 5-7 p.m.
The River Campus Art Building is located at 340 South Frederick Street. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. All gallery exhibitions, events, and talks are free and open to the public. For more information contact Dr. Joni Hand at jhand@semo.edu or (573) 651-2720.
