“Renewal,” an exhibition of paintings by Southeast Missouri State University alumna Lauren Younge, will be on view April 1-29 at the River Campus Arts Annex and Complex.
An opening reception will take place on Friday, April 1 from 5-7 p.m.
Younge graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in art education.
She is drawn to abstract art because it allows her to express herself freely. Art is her main outlet for relieving stress and exploring thoughts and emotions. She doesn't plan much before starting a painting, instead she creates in the moment. Her aesthetic incorporates bold colors, texture and movement. She uses acrylic mediums and inks to create her paintings because of their flexibility. The result is a body of work, created almost by accident. Because her intentions are never set in stone, the viewer’s perception of her work are fluid.
Younge enjoys sharing her passion for art with young people, and has taught for four years in St. Louis, Missouri, in both traditional and nontraditional settings with students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. In 2021, she earned a Master of Arts in arts management and leadership from Webster University.
The Art Annex Gallery in the River Campus Arts Annex and Complex is located at 340 S. Frederick St. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 1-4 p.m., and 1-7 p.m. on First Friday with the Arts. All gallery exhibitions, events, and talks are free and open to the public.
