The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi – the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines – recently recognized the Southeast Missouri State University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi as a 2021-22 Circle of Excellence Gold Chapter, the second-highest commendation a chapter can receive from the organization.
The award is given to chapters that exceed expectations in chapter operations and that demonstrate sustainability and vitality as a chapter of Phi Kappa Phi.
The Circle of Excellence Award Program recognizes chapters for their work in promoting excellence at their institutions and engaging the community of scholars each year. The awards utilize data submitted by each chapter to the national office regarding yearly initiation efforts and chapter activities.
Dr. Suhair Amer, Phi Kappa Phi advisor and professor of computer science at Southeast, said, “I am very proud and honored to work alongside the officers, student vice presidents and members who volunteer to keep this chapter active. Getting this award from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi even in these challenging times recognizes our excellence on our campus and shows that they appreciate the time we have devoted to the chapter.”
The Circle of Excellence program was introduced in 2018. Since 1992, Southeast’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter has inducted 2968 members, including faculty, staff, alumni, graduate and undergraduate students.
In recognition of Southeast chapter’s designation as a Circle of Excellence Gold member, the chapter will have exclusive use of a distinctive logo featuring the Circle of Excellence badge for use in chapter communications and will receive a $200 cash award.
