The “After Hours: Conversations on Art and Culture” series opens the 2021-22 season on Nov. 11 with local artist and entrepreneur Michael Crank Curry presenting “Creative Value.”
This free presentation is scheduled at 6 p.m. at Southeast Missouri State University’s Catapult Creative House, and will also be available on Zoom.
Curry is the owner of Fingerprint Urban Dance Studios and Crank Productions in Cape Girardeau. His mission is to teach kids and adults how to become successful entrepreneurs in the visual and performing arts.
During the “Creative Value” presentation, Curry and his students Eman and Yansanity will define the meaning of value in relation to creatives and explore how artists project the value and perspective of art onto their viewers.
The “After Hours” topic for fall 2021 is “Public Art: Trials, Tribulations and Triumphs.” Traditionally, the gallery or museum is where art is kept. The viewer must consciously decide to go to these spaces in order to see what artists have produced. Public art, on the other hand, occurs outside of the confines of the gallery or museum. The public can be unaware of or surprised by an encounter with art within their communities. In this series, artists from a variety of disciplines will discuss their experiences creating public art and the unique challenges of this genre.
“After Hours: Conversations on Art and Culture” lectures take place at Catapult Creative House. These lectures are free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to tour the entire Catapult facilities including the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Art and Design students’ studios upstairs, as well as the Catapult Creative House Shoppe, which features student work and local business products.
Catapult Creative House is located at 612 Broadway, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. All gallery exhibitions, events and talks are free and open to the public.
