Southeast Missouri State University has been recognized in multiple categories in the 2022 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings released this week.
Southeast was recognized in 9 categories, five overall university categories and four program specific categories. Most notable ranking for Southeast was being No. 16 on the “Top Public Schools” among Midwestern regional universities. The University was also recognized among Midwest regional universities as a Top Performer on Social Mobility, Best Value School, Best College for Veterans and Best Regional University.
“Our focus at Southeast is to provide a high-quality education and student experience, so our students get the best return on their investment,” said Southeast President Dr. Carlos Vargas. “Appearing in several categories by U.S. News is a recognition of the efforts and dedication of our faculty and staff, who work hard to provide engaging academic programs and real-world experiences to empower Southeast students to thrive after graduation.”
The four academic programs that U.S. News recognized Southeast for were undergraduate programs in business, engineering, computer science and, new for 2022, nursing. These programs have also received national accreditations:
- The Donald L. Harrison College of Business and Computing (HCBC) is accredited by AACSB International – the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business
- Computer Science and cybersecurity are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc., (ABET). Southeast is also a National Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education.
- Department of Engineering and Technology is recognized as a Missouri Center of Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing Technology, and is accredited by the Association of Technology, Management & Applied Engineering (ATMAE), and by the Engineering Accreditation Commission and Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission, both of ABET.
- Southeast’s baccalaureate degree in nursing and master’s degree in nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
In April 2021, U.S. News noted there were 3,982 degree-granting postsecondary institutions in the U.S. The news organization collected data on more than 1,850 institutions for its 2022 rankings and only 1,466 schools were ranked.
