The Douglas C. Greene Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Southeast Missouri State University announces the second annual Southeast Innovation Challenge to coincide with this years Global Entrepreneurship Week Nov. 13-17. The competition gives current students the opportunity to be heard and win prizes for describing an innovative program, initiative or service that improves the student experience in a meaningful way.The Southeast Innovation Challenge is open to teams of two to five undergraduate students enrolled in at least 12 hours and graduate students enrolled in at least six hours. After the teams have researched and developed their ideas, they will submit a two- to three-page Executive Summary online by Oct. 27 for the panel of judges to review and score based on how impactful, innovative and feasible the idea is. Diversity amongst majors on the team is strongly encouraged, and will be rewarded by additional points added in the judging process.The top three teams will be notified by Nov. 9 and will present their ideas at a Common Hour program scheduled on Nov. 15 in Glenn Auditorium. The judges will then award first, second and third place with prizes and the audience will vote to select a Peoples Choice winner to receive an additional prize. The prizes consist of $750, $500 and $250 for first, second, and third place respectively to be split amongst team members, less applicable taxes. The Peoples Choice winner will receive a gift bag of Redhawks memorabilia.The 2016 winners were:First place and Peoples Choice Award:International Buddy Program -Verena Breck of Bergisch Gladbach, Germany; Katrien Gill of Hasselt, Belgium; and Caroline Hermsdorff of Stolberg, GermanySecond place:Redhawk Rewards Gabby Bernier of St. Louis, Missouri; Drew Slade of Fenton, Missouri; and Alex Grigsby of OFallon, MissouriThird place:Project Omega Stephen Schott of Chaffee, Missouri; and Benjamin Bohnert of Cape GirardeauThe International Buddy Program was a proposal whereby international students would be paired with domestic students to help integrate international students as well as broaden the horizons of U.S. students and is being implemented starting this fall. Redhawk Rewards was a method of rewarding student organizations based on their participation at campus events. Project Omega was a plan to offer scooter rentals and bike sharing on campus to address parking issues.Interested students are strongly encouraged to attend one of the informational sessions being held at Catapult Creative House at 610 Broadway at noon on Sept. 20 and 27 or at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 3.
