The Custodial Services section consists of 64 custodians: divided between three shifts, who are dedicated to cleaning in the residence halls, auxiliary buildings, and academic buildings. Full-time staff is supplemented with student employees. Crews work various shifts as needed to accommodate University operations and activities.
The Custodian Technician Training Program is designed to help the custodian meet the requirements of his or her job at Southeast Missouri State University. This program will help maintain consistency and equality while providing opportunity for advancement within the custodial field.
This course is designed as a company training program for individuals working within building cleaning maintenance. Previous custodial work experience or work experience while taking the course would be helpful, but is not essential.
The course is divided into three sections, each of which is complete in itself but related to the others. Each section covers a particular area of custodial maintenance work and has its own examination covering that specific section. The final exam at the conclusion of each course covers all information that has been presented. The exams include multiple choices along with true and false questions.
A student may not continue to the next section unless he/she has satisfactorily completed the examination for the previous section.
The newly hired custodian must satisfactory complete the Custodial Technician I training within twelve (12) months from hire.
Cleaning services for rooms include providing linen, vacuuming carpet, cleaning hard surface floors, cleaning & disinfecting restrooms and showers, replacing bulbs, spot clean walls, & clean vents. This process is performed on each room used after each camp has checked out.
