nd This Is Only the Beginning…, an exhibition of works by Evan Coleman, will be on view from Monday, Nov. 13 through Friday, Dec. 8 in the Slingshot Gallery at Catapult Creative House.

Evan Coleman is from Nashville, TN. He is graduating this December with a BA in Art and a minor in Entrepreneurship. He has been making art for as long as he can remember. Throughout school, he was constantly doodling and sketching in the margins of homework assignments. After graduation, Coleman aspires to have a creative agency that helps design products spanning multiple industries in entertainment, advertisement and marketing, fashion, and fine arts.

This exhibition touches on the experience of growth. At some point, we realize we are getting older. According to Coleman, “Stress becomes more and more prevalent as we grow. This can be very intimidating. As I was curating this exhibition I thought about 3 years old Evan - curious with no limitations. The opinions of the world were unimportant. He created to simply fulfill himself. Fast forward to today, I am not the same kid I once was. Life is moving exponentially faster. Lifelong relationships have been formed, graduation is a few weeks away, and I am curating my own solo exhibition. This show gave me the chance to be 3 again. And 7. And 16. Whatever I chose. Free of all worries and expectations, simply having fun.”

Each month and as a part of a program to promote community based and integrated art making, a student artist is chosen to exhibit his or her work at the Slingshot Gallery at Catapult Creative House. These exhibitions showcase a range of work from individual artists that highlights their personal and professional artistic explorations as a part of the Southeast Missouri art community. These artists explore the physicality of the human condition, its relationship to nature, and the role of art in contemporary society.

A closing reception for And This is Only the Beginning… will take place on Dec. 1, from 5 - 7 p.m.

Catapult Creative House is located at 612 Broadway, Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
