Special Reading K-12 Teaching License Curriculum
In the Special Reading K-12 Teaching License program, you’ll learn how to better assist struggling readers to become more independent through teaching strategies and proper assessment. Completion of this certificate opens the door to district-level literacy positions and provides a Missouri advanced teaching license as a reading specialist. Program courses are offered over a two-year cycle.

- Prerequisites: Graduate standing; EL644; EL646; SE602; or consent of instructor.
- EL644. Understanding and Applying the Multidimensional Process of Reading (3)
- Prerequisite: Graduate standing.
- EL646. Inquiry and Research Models Used to Improve Reading Instruction (3)
- Prerequisite: Graduate standing.
- EL624. Effective Literacy Leadership (3)
- Prerequisites: EL644; EL646; or consent of instructor.
- EL611. Practicum I Early Literacy Learners (3)
- Prerequisite: EL647; or consent of instructor. (3)
- EL 630 Reading Recovery Seminar I AND EL 631 Reading Recovery Seminar II may be substituted for EL 611.
- EL623. Practicum II. Older Literacy Learners (3)
- Prerequisite: EL647; or consent of instructor.
- SE602. Effective Literacy Instruction at the Middle and Secondary Levels.
