Southeast Missouri State University welcomes families to campus for its 2025 Family Weekend, Sept. 19-20—a celebration of students, community and tradition. The annual Family Weekend offers a unique opportunity for families to experience campus life firsthand and immerse themselves in the community that supports their students.
“Family Weekend is a SEMO tradition that provides our students’ families a glimpse into life on campus,” said Michele Irby, director of Campus Life at SEMO. “We want them to share in their student’s experience and build a sense of belonging in the Redhawk community.”
Family Weekend is packed with events on campus and in the wider community, including:
- An evening of show tunes and classics with the SEMO Symphony Orchestra at Pops in the Park.
- A tour of the iconic Academic Hall Dome for sweeping views of campus.
- A family picnic with President and Mrs. Hodson.
- Shopping local at the Cape Riverfront Market.
- Relaxing by the fire pits on the Academic Terraces.
New highlights this year include: Pets and Petals at the Show Me Center, featuring pet-friendly fun and family activities; Copper Dome Whiskey tastings for guests 21 and over; and the chance to visit the new Vollink Family Observatory.
TELL ME MORE ABOUT LIFE ON CAMPUS
“Family Weekend is one of the most exciting traditions at SEMO because it brings together students, families, alumni and the Cape community,” said Irby. “Whether you want to enjoy the arts, explore campus, visit Cape Girardeau’s downtown, or cheer on the Redhawks, you’ll find activities that fit your family’s interests. We encourage families to make the weekend their own.”
The weekend will culminate with the SEMO vs. Southern Illinois University “War for the Wheel” football game on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. in Houck Stadium. Tailgating begins at 4 p.m.
