Southeast Missouri State University continues to make strides in several key enrollment areas, even as overall headcount enrollment reflects a 3.4% decline compared to last spring.
The University is seeing increases in significant undergraduate student categories this spring:
- New transfer student enrollment grew by 11%, reflecting a strong commitment to making SEMO a destination for students continuing their academic journey.
- Online degree programs saw a 4% increase as more students pursue flexible learning options in SEMO’s quality online programs.
- Early College Programs (dual credit/dual enrollment) saw a 3% increase, with more high school students taking advantage of SEMO courses to get a head start on their degree.
- The Intensive English Program experienced a notable 35% growth, demonstrating increased interest from students from all over the world seeking to strengthen their English language skills.
Graduate education continues to be a priority for SEMO, with standout growth in multiple areas:
- MBA enrollment surged by 45%, as more students recognize the value of a SEMO graduate business degree and following the changes the program made last fall to make it more convenient for those who don’t have an undergraduate business degree.
- Domestic graduate enrollment climbed 18%, offsetting an overall 4.6% decline in total graduate enrollment, which was impacted by a 24% decrease in international graduate students.
SEMO Educators Advantage Program Sees Early Success
A key initiative launched in summer 2024, the SEMO Educators Advantage, is already helping area school district employees advance their education. Designed to support those shaping the future in classrooms across the region, eligible participants receive a 20% tuition discount for online degree programs and the undergraduate pathway for paraprofessionals. This partnership program has grown quickly:
- Twelve school districts have joined the partnership.
- Enrollment in the program doubled from fall to spring, with 33 students now benefitting from the tuition discount.
