Southeast Missouri State University is making significant updates to its campus parking system for the fall 2024 academic year. SEMO will streamline parking categories to enhance convenience, provide clarity, and improve the overall parking experience for students, faculty, and staff.
The new parking system will reduce the existing categories from six to three distinct levels: resident for students living on campus, commuter for students who live off-campus, and employee parking. It will also eliminate the annual parking lottery system.
“We have long heard that parking can be a source of stress for our campus community,” said SEMO President Dr. Carlos Vargas. “These changes represent efforts to make the parking process easier to understand and more efficient.”
SEMO DPS consulted with representatives from Campus Life, Residence Life, Student Success, the Dean of Students Office, Athletics and Student Government to solicit feedback to make improvements to the system. Vargas said with just three categories, it’s easier for everyone to understand where they are permitted to park. He also noted that the University is looking at enhancing visitor parking as well as metered parking.
The new system will be implemented for the fall semester. SEMO’s Department of Public Safety is working to make updates to parking signs across campus. Evening permits would continue.
The new permit will also see a reduced cost. Costs for the permit for fall, spring, and summer semesters will be $180, decreased $10 from the previous year. Spring-only permits are $150.
Students can purchase their parking permit beginning Tuesday, July 9, at semo.aimsparking.com. Additional information about parking permits as well as frequently asked questions can be found on the Parking Services webpage.
