Southeast Missouri State University will begin the fall 2023 semester with three brand new business majors for students to choose from in rapidly growing fields.
Aviation Management
Southeast now offers a Bachelor of Science in aviation management beginning fall 2023. The degree was officially approved by the Missouri Department of Economic and Workforce Development in May, and by the Southeast Board of Governors at its March 10, 2023 meeting.
Southeast established a successful professional pilot program in 2020 to address the aviation industry’s need to fill high-demand jobs. In addition to pilots, the aviation industry has a large need for bachelor’s degree level management professionals. Non-flight careers in aviation, such as airport manager and air freight manager among others, are projected to have a 7 percent job growth rate. Southeast’s new aviation management degree is the path designed for these roles.
Southeast’s Harrison College of Business and Computing collaborated with the University’s College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to design the aviation management program by combining several established aviation courses with core business and management courses to produce professionals ready to fill management roles in operations, finance, procurement, freight, and more.
Financial Econometrics
A Bachelor of Science in financial econometrics will place emphasis on applied econometric techniques and business forecasting. The program would combine courses from finance, economics, and mathematics.
Financial econometrics will prepare students for a career in quantitative analysis, risk analsyis, financial consulting, and more. Students will learn to forecast financial markets and develop statistical models, design risk management strategies, conduct research on financial topics, and analyze factors that would contribute to financial market volatility.
The major was approved by the Southeast Board of Governors at its March 10, 2023 meeting and also launches this fall.
The Bachelor of Science in financial econometrics requires 66 credit hours with no minor requirement.
Business Analytics
A Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in business analytics will combine courses from business administration and computer science and prepare students for careers in mathematical science and business operations.
While working on a degree in business analytics, students will utilize machine learning to analyze data and make predictions, use statistical methods to draw conclusions from data sets, plan and execute projects, and write code for new models.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs requiring a degree in business analytics are expected to grow by 23%, making them faster growing than the average field.
The major was approved by the Southeast Board of Governors at its March 10, 2023 meeting and also launches this fall.
Students graduating from the Harrison College of Business & Computing have a 96% successful outcomes rate.
