In an effort to create and fosterintegration between all students on campus, the Office of International Education and Services has created the Southeast Buddy Program for international students.
Southeast faculty and staff membersofteninteract with many international students, but also may nothave time to get to know them beyond their officialrole at the University. The Southeast Buddy Program offers a structured way to spend time with a new international student to exchange perspectives and help them feel welcome at Southeastand in America.
Faculty and staff volunteers will be paired up with an international “Buddy” to meet with at least once a month according to theirschedules and interests. Some suggestions for common activities include cooking U.S. and international dishes, attending or participating in a sporting event, exploring a local park or cultural site, or meeting for coffee on campus.
This valuabletime allowsinternational students to better acclimate to the U.S. culture and customs while volunteersgain insight into their country and lifestyle. Thanks to volunteers, Southeast can continue to show students from around the world theyarewelcome here.
