A reception for the artists is March 24, 4-8 p.m. and is open to the public. An awards ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. in Crisp Museum. The Department of Art and Design students at Southeast Missouri State University show off their creative talent during this annual exhibit. Many of the artworks on display will be available for purchase. Categories of art include drawing, printmaking, painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography, visual and digital media

This year’s juror is Leticia R. Bajuyo Associate Professor of Art - Sculpture, Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, Texas. Bajuyo earned her MFA in Sculpture at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, and her BFA, Sculpture cum laude, at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana.

Bajuyo’s research of cultural privilege and consumer pressure yields a drive to both create and question a vision that is comfortable, contained, and controlled. Her large-scale works engage audiences and connect with communities through memories and collections of media, including CDs, artificial grass, and insulation Styrofoam. Bajuyo’s works highlight the impact of desire and the machines that create more desire, and creates spaces and multi-layered experiences that invite audiences to participate in theatrical re-arbitrations of value.

In conjunction with the student exhibition, the professional juror exhibits a solo show of their own work at Southeast and writes an overall statement for the body of works they have selected for inclusion. Crisp Museum is located in the Cultural Arts Center at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus, located at 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
