Welcome to Southeast Missouri State University's Equity Initiatives. We develop, implement, and monitor the University-wide Affirmative Action Plan, as well as ensure the University's adherence to Federal Equal Opportunity laws and State and Federal civil rights laws.

We are responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the University's Non-Discrimination/Affirmative Action and Sexual Harassment policies, procedures, and practices to ensure that no person is discriminated against or harassed in employment, educational programs, and activities on the basis of race, color, gender, national origin, or disability.   

Objectives 

  • Investigate complaints of discrimination based on race, color, gender, national origin, religion, age, marital status, and disability  
  • Investigate allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination in hiring, terms of employment, tenure, promotion, and all other aspects of University life 
  • Respond to external complaints of discrimination and harassment from federal and state agencies on behalf of the University 
  • Resolve complaints through mediation, negotiation, and counseling 
  • Maintain University compliance with federal, state, and city laws and regulations 
  • Provide educational programs, services, and materials pertaining to diversity, equal opportunity, and affirmative action 
  • Represent the campus to federal and state agencies as well as to the higher education community on issues related to affirmative action, equal opportunity, harassment, and diversity 
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of women, men and women of color, persons with disabilities, and other under-represented groups 
  • Provide affirmative action and equal opportunity program planning 
  • Monitor Americans with Disabilities Act compliance 
  • Provide search committee liaisons and employment search committee training 
  • Monitor University employment actions 
  • Provide conflict resolution and mediation 
  • Provide anti-discrimination, diversity, and sexual harassment prevention seminars 
  • Offer training in sexual harassment awareness, diversity, AA/OAE, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other related topics as needed 
  • Provide administrative support to the President's Office and related committees 
  • Counsel faculty, staff, and students who believe they may have been subjected to harassment or discrimination 
  • Investigate complaints of unlawful discrimination in admission and employment 
  • Investigate claims of sexual harassment where a formal complaint is filed 
  • Promote diversification of student population and staff and faculty members

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)

ERGs are groups of employees who join based on shared characteristics or life experiences. ERGs are generally based on providing support, enhancing career development, and contributing to personal development in the work environment.
