The LGBTQ+ Employee Alliance provides the opportunity for all Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer employees at Southeast Missouri State University to meet and connect with one another, as well as sponsor activities and programs that educate and inform, promote LGBTQ+ interests, and build unity among the community and their allies.

Mission Statement

The mission of the LGBTQ+ Employee Alliance at Southeast Missouri State University is to be a resource for current employees (Faculty, Staff, and Graduate Assistants) and students with the intent to help guide the University and our allies in creating an environment that is open and affirming by:

  • Fostering a safe and receptive environment for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff on campus
  • Being a visible and active part of the University community through events for LGBTQ+ community members and allies
  • Educating the University community about issues faced by LGBTQ+ individuals
  • Advocating for LGBTQ+ issues to be addressed within the structure of the University
  • Providing resources for LGBTQ+ employees and students
  • Creating and maintaining relationships between the University and LGBTQ+ constituencies and their allies

Fall 2019 Events

  • 8/21: LGBTQ+ Ally Picnic - Kent Library Portico @ 11:30am & Ally Photo at Noon
    Allies of the LGBTQ+ community show their support at the LGBTQ+ Picnic for free lunch, information, and to meet like-minded people. Everyone is welcome! Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members are encouraged to attend. Sponsored by the LGBTQ+ Resource Center and the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity.
  • 8/23: Alliance Social - Minglewood @ 5:30pm - 7:30pm
    All LGBTQ+ employees and Allies are welcome to our first fall social! Appetizers sponsored by the Office of Institutional Equity & Diversity. 
  • 9/11: HR Breakfast - Human Resources @ 8:15am
    Hosted by Human Resources, all LGBTQ+ employees and Allies are welcome to the annual LGBTQ+ Breakfast!
  • 10/1: Persistence and Pride: The LGBT Movement in U.S. History - UC Indian Room @ 7:00pm
    Join us for Gay History Month, as Dr. Courtney Kisat, professor of history, and Amber Moyers, president of Cape PRIDE, chronicle the history of the gay rights movement in America.
  • 10/19: Rodney Wilson Lecture & Film Preview - UC Indian Room @ 10:00am
    Co-sponsored by Cape PRIDE, PFLAG, LGBTQ+ Resource Center, Office of Inclusion and Diversity, and LGBTQ+ Employee Alliance.
  • 10/26: Homecoming Parade - Capaha Park @ 8:30am
    Join the Employee Alliance and LGBTQ+ Resource Center, as we walk in the homecoming parade and show our community support together!
