Commencement Day

We are looking forward to celebrating your graduation with you. As you and your guests prepare to attend commencement, please review this event guidance intended to keep everyone in attendance safe.

Face Coverings

/ Face coverings are required at all times until you leave the facility, including while singing or cheering.

/ The face covering should fully cover the nose and mouth.

Social Distancing

/ Guests must have a ticket to enter the Show Me Center and must sit in assigned seats. Please hold on to your ticket during the event.

/ Guests are not permitted on the floor.

/ Remember to maintain six feet of social distance from others when entering the facility and while moving through the Show Me Center, including concession areas and walkways.

Exiting the Show Me Center

/ At the conclusion of the ceremony, graduates will be dismissed and directed to exit outdoors through the front of the Show Me Center.

/ When the graduates have exited, guests should then exit the seating area by moving to the closest set of stairs leading to the concourse.  Leave the building through the nearest available exterior door.   Guests should rendezvous with their graduate after exiting the facility.

Students or their guests who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, awaiting results of a COVID-19 test, or have been directed to be in quarantine or isolation at this time should not attend commencement.

Students will be allowed six tickets. There are no additional tickets available and guests who arrive without a ticket will not be permitted to enter the facility. However, all commencement events will be streamed live by clicking the appropriate college in the table above. Please share this link with your guests so that they can celebrate with you in real time.

For additional information, please refer to the email you will receive in mid April from

The University has imposed several aggressive risk mitigation efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Failure to comply with this guidance may cause the ceremony to be delayed, something none us want to see happen. We appreciate your commitment to the health and safety of our University community. By following these guidelines, everyone can celebrate together safely.

Seven Easy Steps to Getting Your Diploma

What you need to know prior to applying for graduation

  • Check important deadlines by clicking here.
  • Meet with your advisor to review your Degree Works audit for unmet requirements.
  • Verify your permanent and local addresses, with corresponding phone numbers, via the portal, and update if necessary. Most graduation-related information will be distributed via your Southeast e-mail address, but if you do not respond to e-mail, we may attempt to send a letter, provided we have an accurate address for you.
  • Enroll for all courses for the semester in which you plan to graduate. Graduate students should include either GR698 or GR699, whichever is appropriate for your program.
    • If completing a requirement by transfer credit, you must make sure the course will transfer as you need, enroll in coursework at the other institution and provide proof of enrollment. Proof of enrollment requires a schedule or receipt from the transfer institution that includes course number, credit hours, title, school name and your name, and must be provided by the transfer school (no e-mail forwards). This information must be received for in-progress courses before you can be approved as a candidate. All transfer credit coursework must be completed successfully and submitted for evaluation via official transcript. After completion of the course(s), have your transcript sent to:

Registrar's Office MS 3760 ATTN: Graduation

  • Students with summer enrollment: Enroll for your summer courses. Then, apply for summer graduation. Because there is no summer commencement exercise, candidates completing requirements in summer may be eligible to participate in the preceding spring ceremony if they submit an application prior to the end of the first week of summer priority enrollment. Please mark the commencement participation option accordingly during the application process to be certain your name will be included in the appropriate commencement program. The choice of commencement ceremony is available only to summer graduates.
  • Run an updated Degree Works audit after enrollment to see what might still be missing. If the department is substituting or waiving a requirement related to your degree program, have the completed, approved substitution form sent to the Registrar's Office, from the department chair.
You are now ready to apply for graduation. Please submit your application by the deadlines indicated HERE.  During peak periods, such as the month before or after the end of the semester, you may need to allow several weeks for your application to be entered. NOTE: If you are completing a major or minor only, you will not participate in commencement, and you will not receive a diploma. If you are completing a certificate program, you will not participate in commencement; your certificate will be available during the pick-up period, and will be mailed to you if not picked up.
