Are you a member of the U.S. military, or a dependent/spouse of a military member?
If so, here is some information specific to you!
Before you jump in, it is important to realize that you are also a
Prospective/Incoming Freshman,
Continuing Student, or a
Graduate Student.
You should begin there! After you review one of those sections, come back here and review the unique details
for military students!
If you have military education benefits, you may be wondering how that is handled
at Student Financial Services (SFS). Don’t worry! Between the
Office of Military and Veterans’ Services (OMVS) and Student Financial Services, we will help you every step of the way!
Military Benefits:
Keep in mind that depending on your educational benefit(s), your funds may pay to
your student account or to you directly. If you are not sure to whom your benefit
will pay, then verify with the Veterans' Administration (VA) or with OMVS.
In regards to your bill, if we have not received notification that your funding has
been certified or authorized before the payment due date, then
you are responsible for payment on your student account to avoid any late fees or class
cancellation. If your funding does not cover your entire balance or the funding is
paid directly to you, then payment on your student account is still required by the
due date printed on your bill. All dates can also be found on the
Student Financial Calendar.
There are many different types of military funding that can be used. For more information
on the types of funding listed below and how to apply, visit
Veterans’ Financial Options or contact OMVS at 573-651-2263.
- Military Residency for Non-Missouri Residents
- Missouri Returning Heroes Act
- Federal Tuition Assistance
- Missouri National Guard Tuition Assistance
- VA Chapter Eligibility
- Housing Scholarships - Show Me Gold & Air Force ROTC

In-State Tuition: Active Duty Military, Veterans, Spouses, and Dependents
Southeast Missouri State University is also pleased to announce that Service Members
and Veterans, who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as their spouses and
dependents, are eligible to receive the in-state tuition rate, regardless of their
state of residency.
Please look at our informational pamphlet on Military Residency for Non-Missouri Residents for additional information about this benefit.
Refunds with Pending Military Benefits:
If your military funding results in a credit balance, then the credit amount will
be refunded to you. However, the refund will not be issued until Southeast receives
the funds from the Veterans’ Administration, which is typically late in the semester.
If you have a combination of federal, state, and military funding applied to your
account, the issue date of your refund will depend on the amount of each type along
with when funds are received. In this instance, you would need to contact Student
Financial Services to determine if part of your refund can be released before all
funds are received from the VA.
