Our Partners

At SEMO, you work with our partners to gain real experience and course credit because we understand what it takes to get the job after graduation. The Department of Mass Media, Art, and Design is partnering with local businesses and other universities to ensure your success through experiential learning and real-world opportunities.

KFVS12

Through our partnership with KFVS12, student-produced programming airs year-round to an audience of more than 13,000 daily viewers, giving you the opportunity to create content for a real broadcast audience while building your professional portfolio. In addition to showcasing your work on-air, students have opportunities to gain industry experience through internships, collaborate with media professionals, and develop the skills and confidence needed for careers in television, news, and digital media.

KRCU

KRCU Public Radio is right on SEMO's campus, broadcasting NPR News and Classical Music across three channels. KRCU gives mass media students hands-on experience and shadowing opportunities in radio broadcasting to build your skills in a real-world setting.

Puerto Rico

Through our KFVS12 education partnership, SEMO has connected with universities in Puerto Rico, including Inter-American University, Sacred Heart University, and Ana G. Mendez University. This exchange program allows one SEMO student to study in Puerto Rico for every two Puerto Rican students who come here, helping grow the Hispanic Educational Technology Services (HETS). In addition, KFVS12 selects three SEMO seniors each semester for paid internships at the station, opening doors to future career opportunities across Gray Media's nationwide network of television stations.

Rust Media - Southeast Missourian

Rust Communications, the flagship company for the local newspaper, has partnered with SEMO for years to publish the Arrow, our student news organization. They also own the Rust Center for Media, the downtown building where students participating in the Arrow, SETV, and SE Creative all work in dedicated content creation spaces, including photo, webcast, and television studios.

Why are community partners important?

At SEMO, we connect you directly with industry partners who provide real-world experience alongside your course credit. The Department of Mass Media, Art, and Design builds these partnerships because we understand that career success in media comes from hands-on experience, alongside classroom learning. By working with local businesses and other universities, you'll develop practical skills, build your professional network, and gain the competitive edge employers look for after graduation. These partnerships are central to our commitment to your success both during your time at SEMO and beyond.
