Steps to Apply for Graduate Admission

#1. Apply

Applying to graduate school at SEMO is a straightforward process designed to help you get started quickly. Begin by submitting the application and official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. (We'll order your initial electronic college transcript if you meet our 3rd party transcript ordering qualifications.) Some programs may require additional materials, and admission requirements vary by program. Students should review the specific requirements for their intended graduate program before applying.

#2. Upload Required Documents

Keep your application moving forward by uploading program-specific materials within your application for admission. Once all required items are received, your application can move through the review process.

#3. Apply for Financial Aid

Graduate students may be eligible for scholarships, graduate assistantships, federal loans, military education benefits, and other financial aid opportunities. Completing the FAFSA is an important first step toward determining eligibility and maximizing available funding. SEMO's Student Financial Services team can help you understand your options and create a financial plan that supports your educational goals.

#4. Advising and Enrollment

After admission, you'll work closely with your graduate program coordinator or faculty advisor to prepare for enrollment and create an academic plan. Advisors help students navigate degree requirements, course registration, and opportunities for professional growth throughout their graduate experience. Whether you're returning to school after time in the workforce or continuing directly from your undergraduate degree, SEMO provides personalized support to help you stay on track and reach your goals.

In some cases, yes. Some grad programs require test scores, letters of reference or other documentation for acceptance. Those requirements will be listed on the program page or in the Graduate Catalog.

A program coordinator is a faculty member who assists students with advising and enrollment into their graduate program. They are available to answer questions and create a study plan so that you're set up for success from the start.

Students are encouraged to apply by the priority deadline whenever possible to maximize financial aid opportunities and allow additional time for advising and enrollment. Some graduate programs have specific deadlines and additional admission requirements, so early planning is recommended.

Yes! SEMO offers a variety of online graduate programs designed to provide flexibility for working professionals and busy students. Online students receive the same high-quality education and support services as students in on-campus programs.
