Paying for college is important to you, and it's important to us. The Department of Mass Media, Art, and Design offers a variety of endowed scholarships for both incoming and current students. Once you're enrolled at SEMO, you'll have opportunities to apply for additional scholarships throughout your academic journey.

VPA Scholarship

VPA Scholarships are awarded for entering freshmen and transfer students (up to 24 transferable hours) who have declared art majors or minors . $500 to $1500 is awarded per academic year.

Herb and Peggy Taylor Endowment for Excellence in Mass Media

Drawing upon the resources of SEMO mass media alumni, the Herb and Peggy Taylor Endowment for Excellence provides finances, mentoring, and professional networking to students majoring in mass media programs.

  • Helen Bedford*
    • Open to Art students. Applicants must submit 10 photographic images of their artwork for review, and a 500-word statement of their goals in art, interests, and plans for the future. The portfolio of 10 images must be saved and submitted as one file that is under 10MB. The file format can be a PowerPoint, PDF, or Word Document.
  • Jean A Chapman Endowed Art*
    • The recipient of this scholarship will be a student enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University majoring in art. Financial need can be considered in selecting the recipient but students are not required to complete a FAFSA. Applicants must submit 10 photographic images of their artwork for review, and a 500-word statement of their goals in art, interests, and plans for the future. The portfolio of 10 images must be saved and submitted as one file that is under 10MB. The file format can be a PowerPoint, PDF, or Word Document.
  • Katherine Cochran*
    • Open to freshmen art students. Applicants must submit 10 photographic images of their artwork for review, and a 500-word statement of their goals in art, interests, and plans for the future. The portfolio of 10 images must be saved and submitted as one file that is under 10MB. The file format can be a PowerPoint, PDF, or Word Document.

    • To be awarded to student pursing degrees in Music, Art, Theatre and Dance.
  • Randy Leiner
    • Scholarship is awarded to a resident of Cape Girardeau County or Scott County who is an art or music major.
  • Dorothy Seabaugh Knehans Art
    • Open to students majoring in Art.

  • Alton Bray
    • Open to transfer students with an Associate of Arts degree from one of the junior colleges that has an articulation agreement with Southeast Missouri State University. Proof of degree held is required. Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA and financial need.

    • Open to Pre-Architecture or Fine Arts majors with more than 30 hours completed and a 3.0 GPA.

    • The recipient of this scholarship will be a student enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University majoring in art.   • DCF Art
    • The recipient of this scholarship will be a student enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University and a U.S. Citizen and a permanent resident of the state of Missouri. Also must be in the graphic or commercial arts department, or in art education and member of either the junior or senior class.
  • Emmett and Gladys Duff Art
    • The recipient of this scholarship will be a student enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University at the Sophomore level or above, pursuing a BS in Education with an Art major, and maintaining at least a 3.0 overall academic standing. Scholarship is to be awarded to one student per year until award amount is greater than tuition and fees at which time additional scholarships may be awarded.
  • Martha Erlbacher Endowed Art*
    • The recipient of this scholarship will be a student enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University majoring in Art Education from Cape Girardeau County or Scott County. Applicants must have completed a minimum 30 hours overall credit with a 3.0 GPA. Applicants must submit 10 photographic images of their artwork for review, and a 500-word statement of their goals in art, interests, and plans for the future. The portfolio of 10 images must be saved and submitted as one file that is under 10MB. The file format can be a PowerPoint, PDF, or Word Document.
  • Dr. Mary Ann Kellerman Scholarship in Interior Design*
    • To be eligible, students should be majoring in Interior Design and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Grades (50% weight), need (25% weigh), and involvement and leadership in student and community organizations (25% weight) will all be considered in the selection process.
  • Dorothy Seabaugh Knehans Art
    • Open to students majoring in Art.

    • Scholarship is awarded to a resident of Cape Girardeau County or Scott County who is an art or music major.
  • Naomi Sago Oelsen Interior Design
    • Open to Interior Design students with a 3.0 GPA who merits this award through academic performance. Financial need will be considered.
  • Clifford F. and Mary Kathryn Rudesill Memorial Art Scholarship
    • First preference is for a Southeast Missouri State University student pursing a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Fine Arts or a Bachelor of Science in Education degree within the Department of Art and Design from Cape Girardeau, Perry, Scott or Bollinger Counties. Second Preference is for a Southeast University student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Fine Arts or a Bachelor of Science in Education degree within the Department of Art and Design.
  • Charles & Mary Ellen Sharp Scholarship for the Visual and Performing Arts
    • Scholarship recipient must be student at Southeast Missouri State University pursuing an undergraduate degree in the Visual Arts or Performing Arts, having completed 45 credit hours with a minimum overall 3.0 GPA.
