How to Apply

Southeast Missouri State University awards more than $24 million in scholarships each year. When you apply to SEMO, we review your application for most of our scholarships automatically without you having to fill out another form or apply separately. And, we award several scholarships at the time of admission, so you know your cost upfront.  

We know college is a big investment, so we want you to make a smart investment. We also know that when it comes to taking tests to apply for scholarships, it's sometimes a burden--cost, time, and even test nerves can be real obstacles to doing well.  

• That's why we're a test-optional school for admission and many scholarships.  
• You will be admitted to SEMO with a 2.75 cumulative high school GPA and the required high school core curriculum.  
• You can  self-report your academic record when you  apply.  

Not every scholarship is available with test-optional admissions but many include the Copper Dome Scholarship, President's Scholarship, and many more.

Any admitted student who confirms their enrollment is required to submit a final, official high school transcript with graduation date sent directly from the high school and official test score(s) sent directly from the testing agency or included on the high school transcript. These official documents are carefully reviewed against the self-reported Academic Record. If the Academic Record is deemed inaccurate, Southeast Missouri State University may change or cancel the admission and scholarship offers, regardless of whether the inaccuracy was intentional or accidental.

You must be accurate. 

• You should have a copy of your unofficial transcript and test score reports in hand when completing the Academic Record to ensure that information is entered fully and accurately.  

You must be honest. 

• Do not adjust your grades in any manner. Do not average or convert them. You must enter your most current cumulative GPA (weighted or unweighted, whichever is highest) exactly as shown on your transcript and report your school's grading scale.  

All Southeast Missouri State University students who have enrolled or plan to enroll will need to submit official final transcripts and test scores by June 1 for the summer/fall term and December 1 for the spring term. We will compare the official final transcript and test scores against the self-reported academic record.  

Academic integrity and student success are our highest priorities. Southeast Missouri State University has the right to cancel enrollment and scholarships for any students who misrepresented their Academic Records. The Office of Admissions & New Student Programs has sole discretion in determining if misrepresentation has occurred.

We ask that students reference a printed unofficial transcript and unofficial test score reports to minimize any typos or errors.  

Misrepresentation or inaccurate entry of information in the Academic Record may be grounds for a change in the admission decision and scholarship offers. These situations may include, but are not limited to, the following:  

• Pattern of inaccuracy: A student submits an Academic Record with a pattern of repeated inconsistencies.  
• Single significant error: A student misreports a super-scored composite/total score or cumulative GPA that has a significant bearing on the admission decision. Our admissions committee will review final transcripts and test scores in comparison to self-reported information. Students may or may not be asked to explain inconsistencies.  

Typos determined to be unintentional may still be grounds for a change in the admission decision and scholarship offer. Applicants whose admission or scholarship offer is changed or rescinded will be notified in writing. 

When a student submits a Southeast Missouri State University application for admission, they are required to acknowledge and sign the following statement:  

Southeast Missouri State University – application for admission “I agree” statements:  
“I understand that all undergraduate/bachelor's students are required to live on campus for two academic years unless they meet one of the University’s residency exemptions.

Southeast Missouri State University is a public institution that frequently takes photographs and videos in public spaces, campus buildings, and events. Due to the public nature of these spaces, I understand photo releases are not required and may be used in promotional materials on behalf of the University

By submitting this application, I agree to all Southeast Missouri State University policies and procedures, including Financial Liability: You are responsible for paying all charges on your account by the payment due dates, even if you do not receive a billing statement or your account is being covered by another party. If you do not pay your account immediately at the time of registration, you understand you are entering into a student loan agreement with Southeast Missouri State University and that this agreement means that the charges on your record for the cost of attendance are non-dischargeable under 11 U.S.C. § 523(a)(8)(B) [of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code]. Furthermore, this agreement shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Missouri. If your account becomes delinquent, you may be subject to class cancellation and may not receive credit for your enrollment activity although your charges are still due to the University. If your account is referred for collection, you agree to pay all collection fees (not to exceed 40% of your total account balance) plus any reasonable attorney fees, including anything incurred at trial and/or on appeal. Full disclosure of the Financial Liability policy and procedure.  

I authorize all educational institutions I have attended to release official transcripts or other information relevant to this application to Southeast. I understand if I am participating in a cooperative degree program between Southeast Missouri State University or another institution, my records may be shared with the cooperating institution.

I affirm that all information supplied is complete and accurate. I understand I must notify Admissions of civil or school discipline history changes after the date of application. I understand that any misrepresentation or change of facts could be cause for refusal of admission, cancellation of admission or suspension from the University.

For the purposes of distance education compliance, I understand that the University’s location procedure is to assume my location is in Missouri, once classes begin each term unless I am enrolled in a fully online-degree program, in which case, the state of residence is defined by the permanent residence address provided in this application.

The electronic signature simply contains your name, typed by you on your keyboard. The signature is your confirmation that the application you have filled out is your work and the information is factually true. Once you type in your name, this will count as your electronic signature.”  

When a student is admitted to Southeast Missouri State University, their acceptance letter states:  

“This offer of admission requires acceptable completion of your remaining coursework, high school graduation, and receipt of your final high school transcript. When your official transcript is received, we will verify your admissibility.”
