J-Day

SEMO J-Day is a free, half-day journalism conference for 7-12 grade student journalists, storytellers, photographers, broadcasters, yearbook staffs and digital media creators and their advisers. Learn from award-winning college and industry professionals through hands-on workshops, inspiring presentations, and networking opportunities while celebrating outstanding student work through regional awards.

See Me Series

The See Me Series explores today's most important social issues through the lens of popular media. Using films, documentaries, journalism, podcasts, television, and other forms of storytelling as conversation starters, the series brings students, faculty, and community members together to examine how media reflects and shapes public understanding.

Michael Davis Lecture

The Michael Davis Lecture recognizes the contributions of African Americans in the media. The event honors the late Michael Davis, a journalism student at SEMO who died as a result of a hazing incident. SEMO held the first Michael Davis Lecture in 1997 to honor his memory. The department annually highlights an African American professional working in public relations, TV or film, news and other media related fields.

Innovation Dock

Innovation Dock guides visiting high school students through hands-on art workshops during the Innovation Dock. You build leadership skills, master your own techniques in mediums like ceramics or painting, and gain valuable experience as an artistic mentor.
