Dear Class of 2020, faculty and staff,

With most of you now home learning and working online in a remote environment, I want to share an important video message with you as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

As mentioned, we are postponing our May 16, 2020, commencement ceremonies until a later time. When it is safe to host the ceremonies, we will do so, and we will share that information with you. You, members of the spring 2020 graduating class, will receive a printed commencement program, and we are asking you to share your stories and photos, reflecting on your college years at Southeast on the form below. We have prepared an FAQ to address many of your questions below. We ask you to share any additional questions you may have to to be included.

Please stay safe. I wish you the best in the coming weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Commencement regalia pickup for both undergraduate and graduate student candidates for spring and summer 2020 graduation will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 14-15 outside the Student Recreation Center. This will be a no-contact process, and students are asked to adhere to social distancing guidance. Those picking up caps and gowns are asked to enter Lot 5-3 in their vehicle. Lot 5-3 is the small parking lot on the south side of the Student Recreation Center where the pedestrian bridge crosses New Madrid Street. Students will be directed to pull into a numbered parking space and to remain in their vehicle. A staff member from the Office of the Registrar will come to the vehicle and ask students to provide their Southeast student ID. Staff will retrieve their regalia from the Student Recreation Center and deliver it to students in their parked vehicle. To alleviate congestion, students will be asked to promptly exit the lot once they receive their regalia.

While graduating students are picking up commencement regalia, they also may return their spring 2020 textbooks in the same area. For additional textbook return information and dates, visit

All Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 candidates for graduation will receive an invitation to participate in the commencement program scheduled for Dec. 19, 2020, or May 15, 2021, during which they will be formally recognized. Graduating students at all levels (undergraduate or graduate) are invited to share their favorite SEMO moment at Faculty and staff also are invited to share memories of these students. We are planning to use these submissions to virtually recognize our Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 graduates in the days leading up to May 16, 2020, as this is the date they would have participated in commencement.

Your diploma will be sent to the address verified as correct in your candidate information with a complimentary transcript, and a printed commencement program. You can expect it about eight weeks after finals. If possible, we will also provide a diploma pick-up date and time, as we have in previous years.

Yes, this purchase will be refunded to the credit card used to make the purchase. Contact CB Grad at (800) 433-0296 to complete the refund process.

Yes, if you would like to have your regalia now for photos and future use, you can still order it now and have it shipped to your home address. We would encourage you to place your regalia order by April 12. Orders placed after that day will be honored but may incur additional fees.

Red cords for 4.0 undergraduate graduates will be included with your regalia, if ordered. If you are a veteran and your status has been confirmed, a red, white, and blue veteran’s cord will be included with your regalia, if ordered. If you purchased a veteran’s stole when submitting your candidate information, the stole will be included in your regalia packet, if ordered.

Most often, cords, stoles and pins are provided by the individual groups. Please reach out to your group advisor for details about obtaining the distribution of these items.

Individual colleges and departments may extend invitations to 2020 graduates to participate in regularly scheduled events during the 2020-2021 academic year.
