The mission of the Prevention Resource Center is to promote and facilitate the development of community prevention initiatives concerning the use and misuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs by serving as a catalyst for mobilization and change in the communities of Service Area 21.

We are a resource for the communities in Service Area 21, providing educational materials, training opportunities, and more to mobilize change.

What We Do

  • Provide technical assistance to state registered coalitions targeting youth substance misuse prevention
  • Educate coalitions on current information from the state and federal governments concerning substance misuse, grant opportunities, training opportunities, etc.
  • Offer trainings regarding substance misuse (e.g. Youth Mental Health First Aid, Signs of Suicide, 40 Developmental Assets, and other related topics)
  • Provide local tobacco retailers with educational materials
  • Provide educational resources and interactive kits to schools and organizations

Who We Serve

The Prevention Resource Center covers Service Area 21 which consists of six counties:
  • Bollinger
  • Cape Girardeau
  • Madison
  • Perry
  • Scott
  • Sainte Genevieve

Our staff visits every tobacco retailer in Service Area 21 and provides the Missouri State law signage, education materials, and training opportunities to retailers. We also receive the Prevention Resource Center (PRC) grant which focuses on alcohol, tobacco, and other youth drug prevention throughout Service Area 21. PRC staff regularly attends meetings and help registered coalitions with funding.

Upon request, PRC staff may present at your school, organization, and/or event. Please contact us if you are interested in a presentation on alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and/or mental health. The PRC grant offers at least three trainings per fiscal year. In the past, some of these trainings have been mandated reporter, current drug trends, ethics, etc. We typically offer these services for free.

The Prevention Resource Center has compiled a list of resources including crisis hotline numbers, treatment program opportunities, data on your communities health, and more.
