Southeast Missouri State University’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) graduates achieved a 100% six-year pass rate, with a 98% first-time pass rate on nurse practitioner certification examinations from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB).
In Missouri, board certification is a required component of licensure as a family nurse practitioner. National board certifications demonstrate that a graduate has met established standards of knowledge and competency for advanced practice nursing.
“This accomplishment is a strong reflection of the quality of Southeast Missouri State University's Family Nurse Practitioner program,” said Dr. Gina Koch, Chief Nurse Administrator and Coordinator of Graduate Studies in Nursing. “It reflects the dedication and hard work of our students, the expertise and commitment of our faculty, and the strength of our curriculum. Most importantly, it demonstrates our commitment to preparing graduates with the knowledge, clinical skills and confidence needed to transition successfully into advanced practice nursing and serve patients and communities throughout the region.”
In SEMO’s Family Nurse Practitioner program, students build their knowledge and clinical reasoning through evidence-based practice, advanced assessment, diagnosis, pharmacology and management of patients across the lifespan. As students approach graduation, they participate in focused board-preparation activities designed to reinforce key content areas, strengthen test-taking skills, and prepare them for the certification examination.
“This shows that SEMO's program is high-quality and student-centered, preparing them to succeed on day one,” said Dr. Kyle Schneider, interim director of SEMO’s School of Health Sciences. “Enrolling in the SEMO FNP program will not only further your education, but it will also prepare you for a rewarding career as a family nurse practitioner.”
SEMO's Family Nurse Practitioner program plays an important role in addressing the growing need for advanced practice providers in the region. SEMO’s MSN program continues to expand access to healthcare and strengthens the healthcare workforce throughout the region by preparing highly qualified nurse practitioners.
