As the launch of a new semo.edu draws near, its important to prepare for the change. One item departments may notice on the new site is the addition of more white space (or empty space between text and around photos).Modern website design is very different than the current Southeast site. Modern websites must be responsive, or designed to be viewed at multiple screen sizes (think desktop, laptop, tablet and phone). The website must seamlessly resize content for each of those different sizes. To accomplish this, web development has moved to more of a single-column design that utilizes more white space. In addition to successfully rendering on multiple devices, the extra space is also a welcome sight for the eyes. Less is more in modern web design as visitors are turned off by the walls of text found in the web design of yesteryear. For ease of readability and to entice your visitors to find the information they need, contemporary websites offer information in blocks of bite-sized nuggets. The updates will be a new look for Southeast, but visit any website updated in the last few years for responsive design and youll find many of the same best practices for performance on display.
