You'll work with veteran media professionals in small classes and get real-world experience with SEMO's award-winning student media starting your first semester.

Why Study Journalism and Video Production at SEMO?

The Mass Media, Art, and Design department at SEMO is backed by accreditation from the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC), one of the highest standards a program in this field can hold.

  • Students report across every platform. You'll write, photograph, record audio, produce video, and design content for digital, broadcast, and social media.
  • Produce video that meets real goals. Learn live event, in-studio, and streamed production, and how to deliver what a producer or client needs in a fast-paced setting.
  • Train on professional tools. Work with industry-standard cameras, editing software, and newsroom technology that employers expect you to know on day one.
  • You'll work in real newsrooms. Produce content for the Arrow and other award-winning student media, plus real assignments with professional publications and local media partners.
  • Graduate with a portfolio of published writing, photography, video, and multimedia work that shows employers exactly what you can do.

What Can You Do with a Journalism and Video Production Degree?

Every organization has stories to tell. This degree prepares you to research, report, produce, and share those stories across digital, broadcast, print, social, and emerging media.

Graduates work as multimedia and broadcast journalists, video and podcast producers, photojournalists, and digital content strategists. Many build careers on their own as independent journalists or contractors, or join the marketing and communications teams of the organizations they once covered.
