Film Production at SEMO is for storytellers who want to make narrative and documentary films. You'll learn to shape character, scene, theme and story, control your environment, and work with specialized teams to bring a production to life.
You start creating from your first semester, using professional equipment and building a portfolio for the film industry or an MFA program.
Why Study Film Production at SEMO?
As a Film Production major at SEMO, you’ll get real, hands-on production experience. You’ll study in the Department of Mass Media, Art, and Design, which is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC).
- Create from day one. Work in studios, editing suites, and on location. You won't wait until junior year to touch a camera.
- Story comes first. Build your skills in screenwriting and story development so every frame serves the narrative.
- Learn to work with a team. Direct, produce, shoot, edit, and write alongside specialized crews, so you understand a set from every position, not just the one you end up in.
- Build a real portfolio. Graduate with festival-ready work, including films for the Fault Line Film Festival.
- Learn from working professionals. SEMO faculty have worked in the industry. They teach you the craft, sharpen your technical skills, and help you land internships and your first job.
What Can You Do with a Film Production Degree?
A Film Production degree is your path into the film industry or on to an MFA program. You'll graduate with real work behind you, not just a diploma, and SEMO's Career Services office is there to help you turn that into your first job.
