Summer’s Bloom in Stillness, an exhibition of paintings by Alexander Chadbourne and Lily Huffman, will be on view from Friday, September 4 through Friday, September 25, at The Nest Gallery in the Seminary Building on River Campus.
Alex Chadbourne is a senior at Southeast Missouri State University, working towards a bachelors in fine arts with an emphasis in painting. Through his paintings he has found a love for landscapes and how they reflect the people and world around them. He believes that the place where someone comes from reveals their inner qualities, even if they are not shared with others. Within this context, Alex aims to create sincere reflections of people indirectly via their surroundings.
Lily Huffman is a senior at Southeast Missouri State University, currently working towards a bachelors in fine arts with an emphasis in painting. This summer she explored her love of landscapes and scenery. The pieces in this exhibition demonstrate how Lily is developing a freer technique, using landscape as her catalyst. The quiet and stillness of
her paintings reflect her summer experiences.
Alex and Lily have known each other for nearly three and a half years. Their friendship started when they were attending Mineral Area Community College and found shared interests and subjects within their art. These shared interests are the theme of this exhibition. When creating work for this show, they wanted to reflect their love and appreciation for nature by highlighting stillness and softness within a landscape.
An opening reception for Summer’s Bloom in Stillness will take place on Friday, September 4 from 5-7 p.m. in the Nest Gallery.
All exhibitions are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Dr. Joni Hand at jhand@semo.edu.
