IS RANKED CHOICE VOTING THE BIG BAD WOLF?
Join Southeast Missouri State University for an interactive Constitution Day event exploring how ranked choice voting works and how different voting methods can affect election results.
Hosted by Dr. Jeremy Walling, professor of political science, the event will give attendees an opportunity to experience ranked choice voting firsthand through a documentary, student-created campaign advertisements and a live election.
The event will begin with a 30-minute documentary examining Alaska’s experience with ranked choice voting. Attendees will then watch four campaign advertisements created by SEMO students before participating in a live election, ranking the four candidates in order of preference.
The event will conclude with an analysis of the election results and a comparison of ranked choice voting with other voting methods.
This event was developed as part of Walling’s participation in an American Democracy Project cohort focused on designing and implementing civic engagement events.
Light snacks will be provided, and attendees will have opportunities to win door prizes.
