Every relationship, every organization, and every community runs on communication. At Southeast Missouri State University, the Bachelor of Arts in communication gives you the skills to do it exceptionally well, and in fewer credit hours than ever before.

Why Communication at SEMO?

SEMO's Bachelor of Arts in communication is a streamlined, 93-credit-hour degree designed to get you to graduation efficiently without sacrificing the depth and quality of your education. You will develop the communication skills that employers consistently rank among the most valuable in any field, from effective interpersonal and public communication to ethical reasoning, cultural awareness, visual communication, and argumentation.

You will work closely with boldly supportive faculty who are genuinely invested in your growth, not just as a student, but as a communicator and a professional. This program fosters a strong sense of community, with opportunities to get involved in the Collegiate Communication Organization (CCO), Redhawk Speech and Debate, and Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honors society.

Turn Ambition into Action

Our program provides a comprehensive curriculum covering various aspects of communication. You'll explore topics like interpersonal and intercultural communication, ethics, visual rhetoric, public address, and communication research. The Communication curriculum requires 48 hours for the major. Students are also expected to complete at least 120 credits, including the general education requirements, and at least 39 senior division hours.

 Degree requirements for all students: a minimum of 120 credit hours, completion of the General Education program, and completion of 39 senior division hours (300-599). Refer to the Undergraduate bulletin or Degree Works for additional graduation requirements for your program. 

A minimum 2.0 GPA in the major and overall are required to graduate with a BA degree.

Get Funding for Your Education

Missouri has opened the door to a more educated workforce and we want to help you walk through it. If you're an adult-learner and a Missouri resident returning to college, learn about the Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant. It's a statewide financial aid program that can be used to pursue a certificate, degree or industry-recognized credential in a high-need area in Missouri. This major is eligible for the Fast Track grant.
