Southeast Online uses a variety of instructional tools to facilitate learning in our online courses. You can expect to see content posted as web pages, PowerPoint slides, PDF or Word documents, and video or audio files. There may also be links to other Internet resources and supplemental materials
Online courses typically include one or more discussion forums where classroom conversations occur. The instructor poses a question, and students post their own comments and respond to the comments of others. You will participate within a specified time frame, but you are not typically required to be online at the same time as your classmates or your instructor. This type of course delivery is also called asynchronous.
Online classes at Southeast are designed to give you all the tools you need without
ever stepping foot on campus. Each class is designed based on a syllabus and presented
online using an easy-to-follow framework. Most fall and spring classes are 16 weeks
in length. Occasionally, courses may be offered in four, six or eight week formats.
Online courses have start and end dates; they are not independent study courses. You
are not required to be online at the same time as the professor or your other classmates.
Our faculty and staff are focused on providing you with the support to reach your goals. Our online advisors will guide you through all of the necessary steps to help you reach the point of enrolling in your first semester.
You will be assigned an advisor who will be available to help you navigate your academic career. They will help you develop a plan of study, select your online classes, and fill the role of your on-campus advocate.
Every semester your advisor will contact you prior to the enrollment period to help you set your goals for the semester. You will also receive a detailed advising summary outlining the remaining requirements for your degree, recommended classes and other important information that you will need to complete a successful semester. Your advisor is committed to your success and will provide you with the support that you need to be a successful online learner.
Undergraduate students can rent the majority of their textbooks each semester. If you are an undergraduate student who is unable to be on campus to rent textbooks, you may use a web form to request textbooks to be shipped to you via UPS. The average course has one rental textbook and some select courses may have no rentals or multiple rentals. A few courses may require that you purchase supplemental textbooks or materials.
Textbooks may be requested as soon as your registration is finalized, but books will NOT ship until closer to the beginning of classes. Please request your books as soon as possible to ensure timely delivery before classes begin and assignments are due.
Southeast uses the Moodle learning system. We highly recommend completing our Demo Class so you can see how our online classes are organized.
