Your voice is your instrument. At Southeast Missouri State University, you'll refine your technique, expand your artistry, and build the confidence to perform on stage, in the studio, and throughout your career. Through individualized instruction, frequent performance opportunities, and mentorship from accomplished faculty, you'll graduate prepared for professional performance or advanced study.
As a vocal performance major at SEMO, you’ll interact with nationally recognized performing artists and educators, attend classes at SEMO's River Campus, a campus solely dedicated to the arts, and study in a program that is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
Apply what you learn through vocal performances, recitals, ensemble participation, and other opportunities to develop your musicianship and stage presence.
Work closely with voice faculty through individualized instruction designed to strengthen your technique, artistry, and confidence as a performer.
Perform and rehearse with fellow musicians while developing the communication and collaboration skills expected of professional vocalists.
Build the skills needed for auditions, graduate study, and careers in performance through comprehensive training in vocal performance.
A vocal performance degree prepares you for careers on stage, in the classroom, and throughout the music industry. The vocal performance major curriculum includes core coursework to prepare you for a career in music. Complete a minimum of 120 credit hours to complete this degree, including the general education requirements and at least 39 senior division hours.

A “Milestone” signifies a significant stage for a student in the completion of a degree.
A minimum 3.0 GPA in the major and overall are required to graduate with a BM degree.
“Critical Courses” are italicized and bold. Data shows that students who have completed this course in the first two years and have earned the noted grade are most likely to complete this program of study.
