Southeast Missouri State University’s 2024 Spring Career Expo is scheduled for Feb. 28 at the Show Me Center, and it’s introducing new employers and a new career platform to help students land jobs.
“Our career expos offer students an on-campus location to engage with employers from a huge variety of fields,” said Dan Presson, assistant vice president of Economic and Workforce Development. “Students and alumni can work on networking skills, explore opportunities, and discuss their personal experience with professionals from across the region.”
Recently, Scott J. Drachnik, CEO & president of the Economic Development Council (EDC) of St. Charles County, said SEMO’s Career Expo is “always one of the best and where employers from our region ought to be to recruit new employees and interns!”
The Career Expo will take place from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Career Services recently began a partnership with Handshake, replacing REDHAWKjobs.com as a job source site for SEMO students and alumni. Handshake has a network of more than 900 colleges and universities and more than 750,000 employers actively recruiting.
“This platform is the number one way college students find jobs,” said coordinator of experiential learning in Career Services Amy Aldridge. “The platform allows us to advertise our events on a scale not previously possible, and this has put SEMO on the map for many companies that may not have focused their recruiting efforts here in the past.”
There are a number of new companies joining employers at the Spring Career Expo, including Top Ag Cooperative, CoverCress, Midas Hospitality, Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).
NGA delivers geospatial intelligence worldwide to intelligence professionals, policymakers, U.S. ships and airlines, and warfighters. It helps make policy and strategic decisions, as well as responding to natural disasters and location services. NGA employs approximately 14,500 civilian, military, and contractor employees across their locations.
“There are so many opportunities available within NGA that all majors are open to consideration,” said Aldridge. “Having them on campus is a huge honor, and we strongly encourage our students and faculty to connect with them.”
The Career Expo will host about 150 employers who are actively looking to hire Southeast interns and graduates.
All Southeast students and alumni are welcome to attend the event. Those attending are encouraged to bring copies of their resume and dress professionally. More information can be found on the 2024 Spring Career Expo page.
