The Southeast Missouri State University Concert Band and Wind Symphony present their final concert of the year May 3 and 4.Performances both days will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeasts River Campus. Face coverings will be required, and social distancing guidelines will be in place. Due to capacity limits, patrons are encouraged to reserve their seats early.The May 3 concert will feature the Concert Band and a variety of chamber music selections performed by student ensembles. Additionally, students from the Advanced Conducting class will conduct several works.The May 4 concert will feature the Wind Symphony and a woodwind choir. The program includes Paul Dukas La Peri Fanfare, several Leroy Anderson arrangements of traditional carols, Percy Graingers Irish Tune from County Derry, Overture for Woodwinds by Philip Sparke. The program will also feature a new work entitled Ruffle and Flourish by David R. Gillingham, which takes just a minute and a half to play but contains enough notes for an entire concert.[caption id="attachment_36965" align="alignright" width="246"]
Dr. Zach Stern[/caption]The highlight of the May 4 concert will feature Dr. Zach Stern, assistant professor of saxophone at Southeast. Stern is a member of the internationally acclaimed Sinta Saxophone Quartet.Stern will be featured in Air Nostalgique by Ted Huggins and A Tribute to Rudy Wiedoeft, a piece originally composed by Gunther Schuller and adapted for woodwind choir and saxophone soloist by Stern. Wiedoeft was a household name in the 1920s and is now described by historians as a symbol of the Jazz Age. The tribute to Wiedoeft will feature Wiedoefts Valse Erica, Saxarella and Saxophobia.The Wind Symphony is led this year by interim conductor Dr. Robert M.
