Southeast Missouri State University has been recognized among the top 100 best regional universities in the Midwest, according to the 2021 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.
Southeast is ranked 76thamong the best regional universities in the Midwest, up two places from its 2020 ranking. Institutions classified as Regional Universities offer a broad scope of undergraduate degrees and some masters degree programs. Only one other Missouri public institution is ranked ahead of Southeast on this list.
The rankings also listed Southeast as the 16thbest public school among Midwestern regional universities. Southeast is one of the three highest ranked Missouri public institutions on this list.
The University has been consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report since 1993.
The rankings reaffirm the Universitys commitment to student success, said Dr. Carlos Vargas, president of Southeast Missouri State University.

In addition, Southeast is ranked 38th among top performers on social mobility for regional Midwestern universities, making it the highest ranked Missouri public institution in this category. This particular ranking recognizes universities that are successful at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students who have been awarded Pell Grants
This fall, Southeast expanded its test optional admissions and scholarships first piloted in 2018 for beginning freshman in fall 2019 — and eliminated its application fee as part of a continuing effort to provide greater access to higher education, Vargas said. Additionally, Southeast has expanded its 2021-2022 scholarship program to assist students and their families. We are committed to making higher education more affordable and reducing barriers to a college education.
