The Regents today approved the following academic program changes:

Applied Management Option on Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

The new 15-credit hour option in applied management on the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration emphasizes interpersonal skills in management, such as negotiation and team building. The option is to help fill the need expressed by employers for students to develop stronger soft skills for use in the workplace, said Dr. Mike Godard, Southeast provost. The option includes an internship to ensure students graduate with focused work experience and are prepared for the workplace. The new option joins Management and Human Resource Management as options on the program.

Fashion Marketing Option on Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Marketing

A new nine-credit hour fashion marketing option on Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in marketing will focus on preparing students to be purchasing managers, buyers, retail district managers and fashion boutique entrepreneurs. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the growth outlook for retail for these types of positions between 2018 and 2028 is 4.4% for management occupations; 2.5% for general and operations managers; and 15% for purchasing managers, Godard said. Current options on this program include Integrated Marketing Communication, Marketing Management and Professional Selling.

Graduate Certificate in Cloud Computing

A new12-credit hour Graduate Certificate in Cloud Computing to be offered by the Department of Computer Science is designed to appeal to individuals having an undergraduate degree, not necessarily in computer science, who seek an increased technical, managerial, and/or analytical background in cloud computing. The coursework would be directly applicable to a Master of Science in Applied Computer Science, Godard said.

Undergraduate Certificate in Web Development

A 12-credit hour Undergraduate Certificate in Web Development to be offered by the Department of Computer Science is designed to appeal to individuals without an undergraduate degree who seek an introductory college experience or wish to gain new skills for a possible career change. The coursework would be directly applicable to a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems, Godard said.
